Ink Bottles

Before we had everyday plastic pens we throw away when empty, we had turkey feathers sharpened to dip into inkwells, founten pens that you could refil from cartridges you putchased or pens that you revilled from full bottles of ink. The first sent of slightly green hand blown ink bottles we have for sale were hand blown and small to hold just enough ink for dipping your feather pen into, writing a bit then dipping again & on and on. The stoneware pottery heavy "master ink" we have is also for filling a smaller bottle. The glass bottle we have is also a master ink bottle. The master ink is so called because it is intended to fill another bottle several times. And a spill from a smaller bottle is less to clean up ! Bottles of ink are still used today in caligraphy - the art of writing with special ink pens in various font styles - used quite a bit for wedding invitations for instance.
